If you want to put some custom wheels on your truck, you want to make sure you choose the right wheels that will work for your truck and that are consistent with how you intend to use your truck. When it comes to choosing the right wheels, you need to make some measurements.  

Measure Your Bolt Pattern 

First, you need to measure the bolt pattern for your wheel. In order to measure the bolt pattern, you need a few different pieces of information. First, you need to count the number of bolt holes on each wheel. For example, does your wheel have four bolt holes, five, or six? Next, you need to determine the distance between the bolt holes, as not all tires with five-bolt holes are located the same distance apart. To measure the distance, you want to measure from the center of the wheel to the bolt hole. This information will allow you to know what type of bolt pattern your vehicle supports.  

Determine Your Wheel's Center Bore 

Next, you need to determine what type of center bore your tires have. Your tires are either going to be hub-centric or lug-centric. This refers to the way that your wheels are attached to the hub of your vehicle. If you have hub-centric mounting, you will notice that the hub is designed to fit right up against the wheel, with no gap. This provides extra support to the wheel lugs. If you have lug-center mounting, there is a gap around the hub. The hub doesn't rest snuggly against the wheel. Thus, the lugs in the wheel support the weight of the tire and don't rely on the hub for support at all, hence the name.  

Figure Out Wheel & Tire Size 

Finally, you need to determine the size of the wheel and tire that you currently have on your vehicle. You can find the size of the tire by looking at the numbers written on the sidewall of the tire. Your rims will generally have information on the inside about their measurements as well. A tire professional will be able to let you know how large to go with your tires and wheels without compromising the handling of your vehicle. Going up in size even an inch or two can really change the appearance of your vehicle without impacting the handling in a negative manner. If you want to go really big, make sure you understand how a larger tire will impact your vehicle's overall performance.
